INTERNET ACCESS

FREE GEEK has several Internet access terminals at the Community Technology Center that are free for our volunteers and clients to use while they are here.

FREE GEEK provides computer systems and some support for free Internet access points at the following locations in SE Portland:

The Back to Back Cafe
SE 6th Avenue and E. Burnside

Red & Black Cafe
2138 SE Division Street

Redwing Coffee & Baking
SE 6th Avenue and SE Market

Acme
1305 SE 8th St.

Terms of this program:

  1. Anywhere a GAP box goes, it should be available to the public.
  2. Don't charge for use, though having a donation can is fine.
  3. You want support from us? Use the software we put there.
  4. Our resources are limited. Every time we add a new GAP site, we want to add another gapster to the pool -- someone who can watch the 'puters out in the wild.
  5. We want to be able to actually get to the place (if we're supporting it) so it should be somewhere near FG or otherwise easily accessible by gapsters.
  6. Want a GAP box without FG support? Probably OK if you really have your own tech support. You may want to install your own software.

And - after almost four years of dreaming of it, we've got the space that will eventually be our public internet access point. It'll take a lot of work and a bit of time, but it's in the works!
