STAFFWhile FREE GEEK depends greatly on its volunteers, the staff (and those volunteers who are as good as staff) help make for day-to-day continuity. The staff works as a collective to make sure that FREE GEEK runs smoothly and grows appropriately, in both its daily and more long-range operations. If we are hiring, job descriptions will be posted at freegeek.org/jobs. Wanna know what your favorite staff member is up to? Check out our schedule! Ali Briggs
Volunteer Trainer/Coordinator
Ali doesn't mess around. She'll teach you how to perform a task like no other. By the end of your shift, you'll feel the power. Cliff Fortune
Old Man of the Recycling "THE ONLY GOOD PC IS A RECYCLED PC" Dana Highfill
Front Desk Intern
Dana is a superhero who works best after a morning of Kung Fu and tea.
She enjoys working with others who feel passionately about creating, Darryl Kan
Recycling Intern
Darryl would like to create a Recycling Triathlon:
When not at the 'Geek, he enjoys throwing and chasing plastic in the mud. No wonder he's the right guy for the job. Dave I. S. Haskins
Production Coordinator
Dave was once Europe's leading specialist in the relation between
Seasonal Affective Disorder and the thornier paths of existential
ontology. Now he rides a swanky refurbished bicycle, collects
mushrooms and cooks Indian food. He can also build a mean computer,
but builds nice ones more often. Jeff Robinson
Laptop Program Coordinator a.k.a. Commander Awesome
Jeff's a Gemini, enjoys short walks to the bar, and beautiful clear starry nights. He's currently looking for sweet, sweet laptops so he can refurbish them long into the night. He also likes working with volunteers and has a good head for program coordination -- we like that lots! Kathie Hitchcock
Receptionist
Kathie's friendly face and banter bring in the donations that keep
us all fed! She was also interviewed in an article about collectives, talkin' about how crazy we all
are. Laurel Bates
Education Cordootin'-tooter Liane Kocka
Computers for Kids Coordinator
...gebt den Kindern das Kommando/sie berechnen nicht Luiz Sudbrack
Store Coordinator
Luiz Sudbrack brings his experience as a Free Geek volunteer and keyboard enthusiast to
the Thrift Store. Plus he gets things done, really fast. And he's got a friend that makes curtains. Martin Chase
Build Coordinator
take a troupe and Mary Kate Watson
Office Coordinator Mary Kate majored in perpetual metamorphosis and minored in talking to the
animals. She has been an event coordinator and veterinary technician in
her past lives. Digging in the dirt with her bare hands, and hugging old,
mossy trees are the secrets to her happiness. Her major breakthrough was
the day she realized that understanding animal behavior explains a heck of a
lot about human behavior, too. Matteo Bell Co-Production Coordinator
Michael
Westwind
Tech Support Coordinator
Michael spent the early part of his life looking at bugs and wanting to be a computer. The concept nerd was invented to describe him (yes, he had a briefcase in high school). The bugs have been replaced by worms and Michael is now a world expert on a small group of earthworms known only from the Pacific Northwest. He does not try to combine the worms with his computers. Michael was trained to be generous and helpful by a team of older sisters.
Despite this early experience he enjoys people and helping them, and helping
them to enjoy computers. He is even still polite to his sisters.
In other spheres, Michael is an obsessive gardener, a former Reedie, and a
wikipedian. Current projects include the search for the perfect ale. Richard
Seymour
That Man Behind the Curtain
Richard grew up on a NAFAL space ship travelling between here and Tau Ceti Prime. He invented the ansible, and Free Geek's
build program, but has forgotten everything he once knew, due the fact that he lives backwards in time. After starting the build
program, Richard tricked Martin and Dave into taking it over, both because they're better at it and because he wants to draw cartoons. Sergio Garcia
Online Sales Coordinator
Ethnicity: Awesome American Shawn Furst
Volunteer Program Coordinator
When we first met Shawn, she was a piece of paper. Several pieces of very convincing paper. Before we hired her, she built her own office. Like the rest of us, sometimes she gets grumpy about computers. She is very humane and classy and uses her mind control powers for the good of the earth and stuff.
