FREE GEEK PUBLIC DONATION HOURS: WEDNESDAY - SATURDAY | 11AM - 4PM
PERSON HANDING DONATION

Our technology donation drives are a way for community members to provide Free Geek used technology without having to come to our Southeast Portland location. In partnership with local businesses, Free Geek hosts multiple tech donation drives on varying sites around the Portland Metro and Vancouver region.

Through tech drives, Free Geek is able to receive a larger amount of devices in a shorter span of time- meaning we are able to get devices into community members hands sooner

Below you will find a calendar with our current tech drive dates as well as answers to some frequently asked questions regarding our drives.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I donate?

In order to focus efforts on the devices most in demand, our tech drives only accept laptops (including their power adapters), tablets, and cellphones.

What does the donation drop-off process look like?

Donating is simple, easy and safe by following these four steps:

  • Before you arrive at the donation site, please prepare your donation (e.g. untangle & tie up any cords, remove laptops from bags, and attach any power adapters to their associated equipment, etc.).
  • Please have the donation in one spot, within easy reach, to unload it as quickly as possible.
  • Drive to your preferred drop site and follow the signage & traffic direction to the designated line for drop-offs.
  • When it is your turn simply unload the donation from your vehicle directly into the bin provided, and you are done!

Please note that in order to adhere to recommended social distancing measures, Free Geek will only be accepting drive-up donations directly from your vehicle. Free Geek will not be able to accept walk-up donations. For the safety of our community, we ask that donors wear a face covering and maintain a 6-foot distance from staff (and other donors) at all times.

Will I get a donation receipt for this drive?

Due to the expected volume of drop offs and to ensure the safety of everyone involved, Free Geek will not be offering receipts on site at these events. You can visit receipt.freegeek.org to fill out a brief form and have a receipt emailed to you.

Do donations have to be in perfect condition?

No. Free Geek will accept and refurbish donations in any condition.

Will someone be able to help me unload my donations from my car?

For everyone’s safety and in order to maintain strict social distancing, we will be unable to help you unload donations from your car.

Your health and well-being are our top priorities. The structure of this drive is such to ensure social distancing.

Do I have to disinfect my donations?

No. Free Geek follows a disinfecting process for all donations before they are distributed. There is no action required on your end to disinfect your items.

Do I need to wipe my data from my donated electronics?

No. All data-containing devices donated to Free Geek undergo a secure data sanitation and destruction process before being distributed to beneficiaries. Learn more about Free Geek’s data security process here

What will Free Geek do with the donations collected?

Free Geek is working around the clock to provide technology to Oregon students and families impacted by COVID-19. Donations from this drive will be refurbished and distributed to community based organizations, school districts and colleges/universities who will ensure the technology reaches the hands of students in need.
